The Arctic Is Not For Sale
The Arctic is under pressure. From Arctic America via Greenland / Kalaallit Nunaat to the seas north of Scandinavia and Russia, the power centers of the world are playing geopolitical games of resources and territories while paying minimal attention to the people on the ground. This is not new, but the current political situation, especially regarding Greenland, has again brought the Arctic to the forefront. Might is right, seems to be the current credo of world politics. As a response, artists of the north must take to the barricades.
The Arctic Is Not For Sale is art in the form of campaigning. It is not a performance, it is a protest; both poetic and political, silent and loud – voiced by artists from the region – using art as a tool to formulate and manifest resistance.
Artists from different territories of the circumpolar North join together for a manifestation of solidarity and sovereignty – with a mission to enlighten and share both art and perspectives with the rest of the world. There will be drum songs, joik, music for oil barrels and stockfish, poetry, appeals, flags and singing.
